About

Chantel L. Fitting is a partner at Galine, Frye, Fitting & Frangos and an experienced personal injury trial attorney based in San Mateo, California. Since becoming a California attorney in 1999, she has devoted her career to representing individuals and families affected by serious injuries and wrongful death throughout San Mateo County, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Northern California.

Chantel represents plaintiffs in cases involving car, truck, pedestrian, and bicycle accidents; traumatic brain injuries; spinal and orthopedic injuries; dangerous property conditions; catastrophic injuries; insurance disputes; and wrongful death. She has obtained millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for injured clients and their families.

A significant part of Chantel’s practice involves understanding complex medical issues and presenting them clearly. She works closely with clients, treating physicians, and medical experts to understand the nature of an injury, the treatment received, the future care that may be required, and the effect the injury has had on the client’s work, family, independence, and quality of life.

Chantel prepares every case with the expectation that it may ultimately be presented to a jury. Her approach includes a thorough investigation, careful development of the medical and damages evidence, consultation with appropriate experts, and focused preparation for depositions, mediation, arbitration, and trial. This preparation allows her to identify the full value of a claim and respond when an insurance company attempts to minimize a client’s injuries or losses.

Her trial results include a San Mateo County case in which the insurance company offered $20,000 before trial and the jury returned a verdict of $974,628. In another case, a jury awarded her client $500,000 after the insurance company had offered $100,000.  Chantel has also resolved numerous cases in seven figures shortly before trial because of her diligent preparation and organized presentation of the evidence to the other side.

Chantel’s trial advocacy and professional accomplishments have been recognized by her peers. She received the George R. Cory Trial Lawyer of the Year Award from the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers Association and was nominated by Consumer Attorneys of California for its Street Fighter of the Year Award. She has been selected to the Northern California Super Lawyers list each year since 2012 and has also been named to the Top 50 Women and Top 100 Northern California lawyers lists. Chantel has received an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell for professional ability and ethical standards.

Chantel is a Past President of the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers Association and has served on the Boards of Directors of Consumer Attorneys of California and the San Mateo County Bar Association. She has also spoken to other attorneys on personal injury litigation, trial advocacy, insurance issues, and the presentation of medical evidence.

Clients value Chantel’s straightforward communication, personal involvement, and commitment to understanding what matters most to them. She makes it a priority to keep clients informed, involve them in important decisions, and ensure that their concerns are heard throughout the legal process.

Chantel earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis, and her Juris Doctor from UC Law San Francisco, formerly UC Hastings College of the Law. She is admitted to practice in California and in the federal courts throughout the state, as well as before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
